Hrefna Dögg Gunnarsdóttir bags the Motivation Award for Young Researchers 2026
Assistant Professor Hrefna Dögg Gunnarsdóttir from the Faculty of Law at the University of Iceland received the Motivation Award for Young Researchers at a ceremony held at Hotel Reykjavik Natura on 12 February 2026.
The award was conferred by the Icelandic Centre for Research (Rannís) in recognition of Hrefna Dögg's pioneering research work to strengthen the foundations of Icelandic society. Hrefna Dögg's research focus on health law and statutory requirements in science, including environmental DNA science. She leads the FREYJA research project in collaboration with partners from Rapa Nui, Canada and New Zealand to produce a framework on research reciprocity in ancient eDNA science that is scientifically tested for feasibility.
